The Laws of Nature

“The laws of nature’ are like a machine which generally yields a soft drink if and only if 1 dollar is inserted into a slot. Social clubs have formed whose founding principle is that the machine only yields soft drinks. They gather to discuss the workings of the machine. Other social clubs have formed who believe that the machine sometimes -but not always- yields chocolate bars if a 2 dollar coin is inserted, and there is animosity between the groups. The first group say there is no evidence that the machine ever yields chocolate bars, that no reputable witness has ever seen the machine yield a chocolate bar. The second group cite examples of people who have observed the machine to yield a chocolate bar when a 2 dollar coin is inserted. Which is right?
